A short drive from La Paz, you will find the coastal community of La Ventana which translates to “The Window.” It’s a beautiful and happening town that is popular with wind sports enthusiasts throughout the winter months. The location isn’t central to anything and it’s not located on a main highway.
For this reason, shuttle services to La Ventana are very specific to the destination. They run more frequently in the busy winter months but you can find options throughout the year. La Ventana is a great destination and shuttle services make it easy to reach.
Locating La Ventana – Baja, Sur
While it’s not far from La Paz, it seems a world away. The drive is a short 45 minutes with most of it being a big decline on Highway 286. While La Paz is closer, many visitors still prefer flights to San Jose del Cabo. They have more options from North America with better routes and rates at times.
It’s also a popular move for long term visitors to shop at Costco in Cabo for supplies before routing to rentals or homes in La Ventana. The drive is just over 2 hours if you fly into San Jose del Cabo. It’s all on a nice paved highway as well.
Local Shuttle Providers
The shuttle services based in Cabo and La Paz don’t always serve La Ventana. They will make the trip for groups who book the entire shuttle but your best bet is through a local vendor. Several services are based right in town and they frequent both airports. They also run large and small groups.
La Paz to La Ventana Shuttles
Fly into La Paz? In terms of convenience for drive times, this is the best shuttle. Prices are often less as the distance is very manageable in both directions. I will say, the drive is also quite beautiful. If it’s your first time, enjoy the views as you drive down the big hill through the wonderful desert.
The ideal situation for reaching La Ventana involves the short shuttle from La Paz. If you have time after landing or before departing, consider spending a day in town. The Malecon, restaurants and general scene are pretty amazing. It’s one of my favorite cities in the world.
Cabo to La Ventana Shuttles
Sourcing a shuttle for the longer trip requires a bit more leg work, especially for single or double travelers. For the sake of keeping costs low, it helps to have a group rate. Again, the local vendors are your best bet but it never hurts to inquire with Cabo based shuttle services as well. Some of them will make the trip if you can fill enough seats.
I think it’s a good idea to do the math on flight + shuttle rates to make a decision. You might also look into lodging options that include a shuttle as many of them do. It can really make a great value proposition when transportation is included in the cost structure.
Scheduling Your Trip
When will you visit La Ventana? For the kiteboarders and wind sport crowd, winter is definitely the best time to visit. Most of the North American tourists arrive between December and April. You will still find a ton of great opportunities in the spring and fall months with lighter crowds as well. Summer is hot and considered the low season but it’s also ideal for avoiding the crowds.
